Description A gendered reading of early medieval sources seeks to locate women in Wales ca. 410-1100 CE, the post-Roman to pre-Norman period. This thesis not only identifies women within the surviving source-types-from stone inscriptions, written law codes, charters, and hagiography, to archaeology and material culture-but also analyzes their representation and agency within the historical contexts of various intersecting identities. This multidisciplinary approach offers new insights into the functions of gender and status in early medieval Welsh society.
