Description Amblyopia is a visual impairment of one or both eyes caused by inadequate stimulation during early childhood that cannot be corrected immediately by optical means. It is a neural disorder that results from inadequate stimulation of the brain during critical periods of development. In this paper, we will review the neural characteristics of amblyopia from previous neuroanatomic, neurophysiological, psychophysical, and neuroimaging studies.
