Title Interactive Case: Acute Stroke Real-Time Tele-Consultation
Creator Beau Bruce, MD, PhD
Affiliation Emory University/Department of Ophthalmology, Atlanta, GA
Subject Telemedicine; Dizziness; Stroke; Real-Time; Video Oculography
Description Real-time telemedicine, which allows the patient and clinician the opportunity to interact face-to-face, is perhaps best developed in the area of acute stroke consultation. However, the organizational, technical, educational, financial, and regulatory barriers seen in other areas of telemedicine remain limitations in the further expansion of telestroke. Developing technologies, such as portable, quantitative video-oculography may improve bedside examination of the ocularmotor system, improving the sensitivity for certain types of infarctions, particularly of the posterior fossa. The current state of acute stroke telemedicine and future possibilities are discussed.
