Everywhere and at all times the contacts and co-mingling of divergent peoples affect culture change and cause social disorganization: new cultures, new personalities, and new societies emerge out of the stresses and strains of the social order in transition. In western civilization, this impact of western civilization upon,·the nature of cultural change is dynamic: there is the adoption as well as the rejection by the natives of new cultural traits; there is a conspicuous transformation of some of the indigenous inSitutions while there is a strong resistance to change by others. |
