Leading the way for the women were Vanessa Mortensen, Jen Jackman and Nellie Hammons. Mortensen finished second in the hammer, throwing 59.59m. Her mark is not only a new personal record, but also a new school record for the sophomore thrower. Jackman, who had a great meet, finished second in the 400-meter hurdles (59.92) and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (14.53), contributing 11 points to Utah's total score. Hammons finished third in the 800 meter with 2:10.39. The Utes got several impressive performances from Jennie Haertel, Elise Greenwood and Andrea Davidson. After qualifying for the finals yesterday, Haertel had another great race in the 1,500 meter finishing fourth with 4:33.24. Greenwood took fourth in the 5,000 meter with 17:15.32 and Davidson finished seventh in the 800 with 2:13.56, a new personal record. On the men's side, Nephi Tyler and Delifno Arevalo led the way. Tyler finished third in the 1,500 with 3:50.46 and Arevalo finished seventh in the 5,000 with 14:48.65. Together they contributed eight of Utah's 22 points. |
