No bait. Covered the traps with sand. Baiting the traps with carrots evidently was instrumental in catching the animals. All animals found in the traps during the afternoon check. Hiked to bats cave area NE of the main camp. Collected snree Hutamias Quadrivittatus. (Not able ito preserve them.) Shot with #7 shot, 1410, shotgun. Collected one EHErethison Dorsatum with twenty-one rifle. Specimen # 5, (skull only). SW. Ogden, 4627 S$. 1200 W. 4460 {t., Webder Co., Utah.H.Hllis farm. J.E. # 2 was taken $ unnel 3e] in the entrance of in a side hill burrow, east of an apricot orchard on the Howard J. Ellis farm. The tunnel entrance is about 12 inches in diameter, due probably to the sandy, gravely nature of the hill in which it was’ dug. There are grasses and alfalfa on the hill side and in the nearby orchard. The hole is about 15 feet below the level top of the hill where the orchard is located. Many broken apricot pit shells were observed on the aprin of the tunnel mound. No* bait used. Single specimen, H.J.E. # 7 was taken in a #1 steel trap at the entrance of a tunnel burrowed vertically into a level area of ground 100 yards north of the Apricet orchard. The animal was infested on the underside by many wood ticks. There had been little damage done to the bushes on which the animal was feeding, therefore it appeared that he had come into the area only recently and that other Brethhzon: had hot been in the habit of feeding in:that particular spot. The trap was placed behind a . table top that was leaning against the |} North Wall. The traps were set at 3 P.) | and the animal was found in the trap at 6:50: P.M. Indicating it is diurmal ah }nature. There was no evidence of nesting places for the animal.in the building but both of the outside entrances gave | easy access to any and all animals that | wanted to enter. The animal had either been attracted to the trap by the apple bait over the trap or had 3 fallen into the trap by accidnet as it came up out of the ditch. The animal was found during the morning check of traps. It was caught during the night or during the early morning hours. Single specimen, H.J.E., #11 was take ifrom a nesting area about = miles So. of the main Boy Scout Camp lodge. It was |collected by Alma L. Ellis with a 410 |shotgun, # 7 shot. Many of the animals |were observed in the same area. They [had many holes burrowed beneath a large |flat boulder that overlooked a cut in the road. The animal collected came from underneath the rock and sat looking at us from the edge of the hill, After 17% had |been shot, others came out from under the rock to continue to look at us.A curious group of diurnal animals.
