Description Retinoblastoma is the most common malignant intraocular tumor of infancy and early childhood. Its prevalence worldwide is one case per 16,00023,000 live births. These figures have not changed since the 1970s. The incidence of retinoblastoma decreases with age. From birth to 4 years of age, the incidence is 10.6 per million; for patients 59 years of age, the incidence is 1.53 per million. The majority of cases are diagnosed before 4 years of age. Only five patients over 10 years of age were identified among 760 cases in one review. The tumor, however, can occur in adults. There is no sex predilection for the occurrence of retinoblastoma.
