Diaries and letterbook. Typescript copies of two diaries kept by Clayton. The 1840-1843 diary records missionary work for the LDS church in England, the trip to America and daily life in Nauvoo, Illinois. The 1852-1853 diary records an overland journey to New York, departure to England, and missionary activities there.

The manuscript letterbook was kept by Clayton as Notary Public and Territorial Auditor of Public Accounts. After Clayton's death in 1879, it was continued by his son, Nephi Clayton.
