My thesis project is "Mudafossil", a 3D music video project my partner, Hirad Sabaghian, and I worked on together spring of 2016. "Mudafossil" is a song from music producer Ash Koosha's album IAKA I. The music video was released on Adult Swim, a cable network, on April 10th, 2016 to an estimated audience of over 5 million viewers via television and to an estimated audience of 6 million viewers via the internet. This written complement to our video explores the appeal of new media creativity as a response to digital identities, alienation, authority, and diaspora. Online, we joined and built artistic communities based on rebellious fantasies and politics. I somehow learned to accept ambiguity, sexuality, and vulnerability in our non-virtual lives and selves. We both and together became successful professional artists. My story has been an intense, compressed, perhaps today not atypical process that I hope deserves analysis and reflection. |
