Description |
The Crossroads Urban Center is an emergency food pantry and community center dedicated to fighting the root causes of poverty and supporting members of the community with basic survival needs. One of the groups within Crossroads is the Anti-hunger Action Committee, which is focused on increasing food security for low-income Utahns. One of the projects of the Anti-hunger action committee is to encourage low-income Utahns to become more politically involved in order to better support their own interests in the political sphere. The project is a recurring advertising campaign called the "Anti-Hunger Voter" campaign, encouraging people to be anti-hunger voters by registering to vote and telling their political candidates that fighting hunger is a priority for them The committee wanted to expand the campaign for the 2012 election because it was a; big election year. I was able to contribute to the project by assisting in planning and designing posters, business cards and pamphlets for distribution. These materials contained information about how to be an anti-hunger voter. Throughout the campaign, the committee was able to distribute 800 business cards and hand 100 posters, which is a significant increase form past years. Many of the effects of the project are difficult to quantify but the growth experienced by the campaign this year will continue to assist in the expansion of the project and hopefully lead to an increase in noticeable results. |
