Description |
The Escalante Monument was unveiled at Jensen July 4th, 1928. A small stone, with the inscription, "Escalante crossed here 1776" was placed on a knoll just west of the old ford. Congressman Don B. Colton was invited to speak. Franklin Riter presented the tablet and monument to the people of Uintah Basin and Senator Thos. W. O'Donnell accepted the memorial in behalf of the people. The daughter of Chauncey P. Overfield, unveiled the tablet. The Lions Club Committee and the Sons of the American Revolution were instrumental in organizing the commemoration of this historical event. |
