Show A postcard photograph of Old Snow, Shem, and Frank Mustash. Three notable Shivwits Paiute Indians who lived in the Village of Shem of the Shivwits Agency in Santa Clara, Utah. The three men are standing on a dirt road next to a rough surfaced stone building. Old Snow (left) is wearing semi-dark pants, a light colored shirt, a full beard, and is holding a cap in his hands which are held out in front of him resting atop of a walking stick. Shem (center) is wearing a light colored shirt, dark pants, a goatee, and is holding a large brimmed dark hat in his left hand. Frank Mustash is wearing a light colored shirt beneath a semi-dark overcoat, light colored trousers, knee high boots, and holds a wide brimmed light colored hat in his right hand. The three men are standing in front of a mass thicket of foliage. The tree branches dominate the entire background (i.e. the upper left hand side of the photograph). |
Further Information |
This postcard is in good condition. Written in faded dark ink along the bottom border encircling the photograph is the names of the three Indian men: "Old Snow [,] Shem [,] Mustash." Imprinted on the back, in black ink, is "Post Card," next to "AZO [encircling] Place Stamp Here" in the top right hand corner. The back is separated into two sections by two format headings. The heading on the left is "Correspondence," the heading on the right is "Address." Written in fading black ink is the following: "May 20th 1920 [,] Shivwits Indians Village of Shem, Utah." In heavy black ink, written vertically, is, "Return to WWP." |
