A comparison of personal value patterns of medical-surgical nurses with the ratings given them by supervisors.

The findings of this study were very similar to those of other studies in relation to a description of nurses with the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule. The sample of nurses used in this study showed many of the same value patters as did college women, but they also showed some marked variation which by face validity can be associated with Nursing; curriculum and the service which is required of nurses. This study showed 15 significant correlations out of 150 possible relationships between the EPPS and Evaluation tools. Since 14 of these correlations were significant at only the .05 level, the findings were not very much greater than those which might be obtained by change. The age of the nurse correlated significantly 6 of a possible 16 expected to have some significance from face validity. The findings of this study were not significant to the extent that would indicate their use with any degree of reliability in counseling and testing situations, but the have raised some import question and have implications for further study.
