Description |
Background. Children should be given early opportunities to learn about what higher education can do for them in their future. Coming from a low income background, children may not see education as a priority in their life. Having opportunities where students, professors and professionals from universities come and help students to understand why college is important and how they can get there. Methods. For this project, I first met with the learning center coordinators and principal at Mountain View to implement a plan of action. Then I contacted potential guest speakers for the students in the after school program and arranged for these speakers to come present during after school hours. Students learned about why college is important and how they can get there. Results. College is not for everyone, but children should be given opportunities to hear about college and higher education. I learned that each child is unique, no matter what race, background, or socioeconomic; status they come from. Every child deserves an equal chance to a decent education. |
