Title |
Correspondence related to a speech by Marriner S. Eccles before the New York State Bankers Association meeting, January 19, 1942 |
Description |
Scans of letters to and from Federal Reserve Chairman Marriner S. Eccles related to his speech at the New York State Bankers Association's 14th Annual Mid-Winter Meeting in New York on 19 January 1942. Some concerned setting up his participation, while others were follow-up thanks for same or requests for copies of the speech. There is an exchange from late January and early February between officials of the Association and Eccles, who did not know that a transcript had been made during the speech. He requested that it not be published, as it was extemporaneous and "off the record." In his Feb. 2nd letter he said he "wondered how the local press had so fully and, on the whole, correctly reported what I had said." Some letters asked more involved questions, which Eccles answered. One 3-page letter is by S. J. Quinney. |
