Show This photograph is of the Hancock Residence, home of George R. and Kate Ferry Hancock. The house is in a light colored brick, with a sun porch wrapped around the front and side of the house. On the second floor of the house are a balcony and a deck. There are curtains in the window on the second floor. The area around the house has many trees, including a tree to the left of the house and in front of the sun porch, and two trees to the left and right of the entrance to the house. A man in a dark suit and a woman in a light blouse and dark skirt are sitting on the front steps. Along the sidewalk farthest from a street is a curb, with two small columns leading to the entrance. In front of the house, tied to a post, are a horse and buggy. |

The photograph is in excellent condition. This is a copy of the original. On the back the following is handwritten in black ink. "Hancock Residence, Home of George R. and Kate Ferry Hancock. Mrs. Hancock is the daughter of Col. and Mrs. William M. Ferry (Jeannette Hollister Ferry). The first meetings of the Westminster College Woman's Board were held in this house. As of 10/20/05 the house is still standing at 444 South 700 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. It is presently the home of Every Blooming Thing, a flower shop. Mary Hollister Hancock, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. George Hancock, lived in this house until her death. The house is said to be haunted by her ghost." Col. Ferry purchased the home in 1901 and transferred it to the Hancock family. Col. and Mrs. Ferry spent considerable time in this home when they were visiting in Salt Lake City. They gave the Presbyterian Church the property where Westminster College is presently located. Carol Joseph Rimensberger inherited the home upon the death of Mary Holliser Hancock. Mr. Rimensberger was co-owner of Fendall's Ice Cream shop which was close to the Hancock residence. The Rimensberger family provided loving care to Mary Hollister Hancock for many years prior to her death.This photograph and information about the house was given to the Giovale Library, Westminster College, on May 5, 2003 by Carol Rimensberger Radinger, daughter of Carol Joseph Rimensberger.For additional information about the house see: Dunning, Linda.
