Description Two men are seen on a derrick that was used for mining gilsonite. Gilsonite is found in the Uintah Basin in the Bookcliffs area in verticle veins. Gilsonite is a black asphalt-like hydrocarbon that is used for many products. The Uintah Basin is the only place in the world that gilsonite is found in commercial quanities. It is still being mined at the American Gilsonite Company in Bonanza, Utah.
