Wheelchair Repair and Maintenance Project

Wheelchairs were being taken to an area without any communication. These wheelchairs were in boxes, broken or needed new parts. We needed to get the wheelchairs repaired, move tools and parts to an easy access area to repair wheelchairs, put the wheelchairs back into circulation for patient use. Hired a patient transporter with wheelchair repair experience. Determine how many wheelchairs we needed to fix and move, order parts necessary and added basic wheelchair repair to patient transport training. The team moved over 100 chairs within 3.5 months. We are now maintaining the new process and not allowing more than 5 wheelchairs in broken holding area. We are continuing to communicate clear expectations.
