Ashley LDS Ward Chapel

Fire early Sunday morning entirely destroyed the Ashley Ward Chapel that had been completed in 1934 to the cost of $12,000. Plans for a new chapel had been decided by the building committee. President Hyrum B. Calder of the Uintah stake said that the planned for the new chapel will be enlarged. Fund raisers were organized to help with rebuilding. In March 1938 one money-maker cleared $400. A chicken dinner was served and over 68 chickens were prepared. A matinee was held at the Vogue Theater and roller skating was at the Imperial Hall. A dance finished off the evening with the Massey stringed orchestra and the Basonians furnishing the music. The new and larger chapel is estimated to cost $17,150 and work will begin in the spring. This building still stands at on the corner or 2000 North and 500 East. It had been sold and is a private home.
