Researchers announced today that the first large-scale breast cancer prevention study for women at increased risk for the disease is starting at more than 270 sites across the United States and Canada, The Breast Cancer Prevention Trial (BCPT), a study designed to see whether taking the drug Tamoxifen will prevent breast cancer, is being conducted by the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) and is sponsored by the U. S. National Cancer Institute (NCI). Sixteen thousand women, aged 35 and older, who are at increased risk for breast cancer will participate. |
