An attempt, will be made in this paper to describe, utilizing principles of generative of phonology, the, fundamental morphophonemic processes of the Arabic verb. In particular, the paper wilt be limited to a' consideration of the Form I "strong verb" of Arabic, by far ,the most frequent single type. Once Form I is thoroughly' described" the remaining several derived verb forms should, with only minor modifications and extensions, be capable of enumeration by the rules established for Form I. The variety of Arabic under consideration here is I. Classical Arabfc, and the use of the' term, "Arabic" will, hereafter, refer to this Classical or Formal variety, the 'Arabiyyah, unless oherwise .specified. |
