Show Martin Blundell Martin Blundell, a resident of Bountiful, Utah, received his Bachelor of Fine Art degree from the University of Utah in 1975, with an emphasis in drawing and printmaking. His work has been included in local and national juried exhibits, including the Utah Watercolor Society, Bountiful/Davis Art Center Statewide Exhibitions, Springville Museum Spring Salon, and the Utah Arts Council Statewide Competitions. Artist Statement: I have been working on a series of drawings and paintings that explore the combination of memory as subject matter and collage as format. The art is developed in segments of remembered images executed from memory rather than life. The collage process complements the random selection of images and reinforces our mind's ability to store multiple thoughts. We experience contemporary life in many fragmented episodes. These drawings and paintings are a two dimensional representation of the act of remembering. Randomly selected references from popular culture are combined with drawing and painting primarily to supply color and texture. Sequential numbers and automatic writing add references to time and context, but also function as formal elements of design. Painting from memory tends to simplify images to esential forms. Some images are complimentary, others may be juxtaposed, developing harmony or tension. The works of art naturally have autobiographical content, however universal concepts and perceptions infusethe work.
