Description This project aimed to address elevated surgical site infection rates in hysterectomy cases compared to peer institutions participating in the Vizient collaborative. Key interventions include: Implementing standardized surgical prep; Standardized antibiotic selection; Optimizing glucose control pre- and post-surgery; Maintaining normothermia before and during procedures; Updating patient guidance for skin prep before surgery; Post-op evaluation of patients if concern for infection, including in-person visit. Over four months post-implementation, there were zero surgical site infections recorded in this patient population, indicating a significant improvement in outcomes. These findings underscore the efficacy of multifaceted interventions in reducing surgical complications and highlight the potential for broader implementation to enhance patient safety in similar contexts.
