Description |
This view, taken over the cab of a Central Pacific locomotive, looks east. The locomotive in the background is on a Union Pacific siding. The siding was constructed on what Union Pacific hoped would be the mainline grade. The spike driving ceremony took place opposite and slightly west of the braced pole seen in right center of the picure. Alfred A. Hart took this picture on May 9, 1869. Gift of M.J. Burson. |
