During a CLP search, these parallel and optimal hardware DRA heuristics can be used effectively whenever a new search state (a new node on the search tree) is generated. In the worst case, linear time complexity is required (e.g., for DR..t\\5 heuristic) to prune the search space. In this chapter we study the consistent labeling problem as a whole1 with the emphasis on exploring its parallel processing framework. To begin, in Section 7.1, a sequential CLP search procedure is analyzed both qualitatively and through real al-gorithm runs on a uniprocessor. Some useful insights about the algorithm structure and problem bottlenecks are observed. In Section 7.2, a primitive parallel CLP algorithm, called CLPl, is presented which is general for finding all solutions to a CLP problem. This algorithm is mapped onto a parallel CLPl computer architecture2 in Section 7.3. The CLPl architecture offers an essential and solid background for further powerful and advanced CLP architecture development.
