Description Rowan Oak built circa 1848 and was home of novelist William Faulkner from 1930-1962. The painting on the left is Faulkner in his riding habit and the one on the right is of Faulkner's great-grandfather Colonel William C. Falkner. (That was the original spelling of the family name. Faulkner later added the U.) The bust between the two paintings is of Don Quixote. Faulkner acquired it in Venezuela.
