Additional Information Lowry Nelson (1893-1986) was a Utah native who became a sociologist. Among the subjects of his studies were various Mormon communities in rural Utah. His papers are at Utah State University. The Midland Trail was an early transcontinental auto road that passed through Green River, Provo, and Salt Lake City, Utah. The Carbon County section later became U.S. Highway 50
