Additional Information Glen Canyon Bridge was constructed in 1957-1959 by the United States Bureau of Reclamation to facilitate transportation of materials for construction of the Glen Canyon Dam in the 1960s. The bridge is 1,271 feet (387 m) long and rises over 700 feet (210 m) above the river. It was the highest arch bridge in the world at the time of its completion in 1959. U.S. Highway 89 passes over it
