Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a popular technique used in scientific computing to solve partial differential equations modeling physical phenomena [4, 50]. FEA computation usually produces large data sets. It is impossible to analyze these data sets by hand. Specialized computer software is employed for visualizing the data sets. In this dissertation, visualization algorithms for FEA data sets are presented. These algorithms are developed for analyzing both scalar and vector field FEA data sets. 1.1 Finite Element Analysis In [4], Burnett outlines Finite Element Method (FEM) as: FEM is a computer-aided mathematical technique for obtaining approximate numerical solutions to the abstract equations of calculus that predict the response of physical systems subjected to external influences. Each of the problems solved by using FEM includes at least the following components: • A physical domain. • Governing equations. • Boundary conditions. The physical domain is the space where the target equations are to be solved. The governing equations are used to express the conservation or balance of some physical properties such as mass, momentum or energy. The material properties of the physical domain are also described in the governing equations. Boundary conditions describe the interaction between the physical domain and the external world, like the flux of heat.","restricted_i":0,"id":95844,"created_tdt":"2015-11-02T00:00:00Z","format_t":"application/pdf","parent_i":95941,"_version_":1642982571738398721}]},"highlighting":{"95844":{"ocr_t":[]}}}
