Title Surface perturbations for texture mapping
Date 1987-03
Description This thesis present a new method of texture mapping which can be used in conjunction with the above techniques to improve textured images. The proposed method uses surface perturbations for texture mapping. Surface perturbations enhance traditional texture mapping techniques by allowing the texture map to alter the shape of the object. The technique works by developing a model of the actual three dimensional textured surface. The model is then used to create a surface perturbation map that can be directly applied to the model during rendering to create very realistic texture. This thesis presents surface perturbation texture mapping in detail and discusses the problems and promises of the new technique.
