The results of the parallel model and the performance of algorithms have been compared to that of a sequential model. In order to examine the relationship between model size and performances, the size of model has been changed for several resolutions. 5.1 Problem Dimensions A prol;>lem size is determined by a model size and the number of time-loop iterations. Since the execution time of the model is linearly proportional to the number of iteration, the fixed time-loop has been used in this study. Time-loop iteration was selected for 15 days with one hour time step so that 360 iterations are repeated in the time-loop. A model size can be represented by a spectral wave resolution number, J and the associated spherical grid array called Gaussian grid. The size of Gaussian grid is determined by a number of samples along latitudes and longitude. The resolution J of the operational model at NMC was 40 waves for a whole globe until August of 1987. The resolution number of the current model has been increased to 80 waves for better accuracy. Spatial resolution according to the 80 waves is same as about 250 Km in grid point model. Seven different resolution numbers are used in the test runs.
