Description US Army Foot Soldier's personal photograph of solders riding tanks on their way to cross the Rhine River, 1945.
Abstract US Army Foot Soldier's personal photograph of soldiers riding tanks on their way to cross the Rhine River in March 1945. The First Battalion 310th Infantry Regiment was the first infantry battalion to cross over the Rhine River. The order given to this battalion was "Cross the Rhine, turn right and attack!" Phil Andersen wrote, "I am now in the 78 Division of the; first Army somewhere across the Rhine waiting to be sent to my outfit. I am not crazy about going to the front but I consider myself lucky staying away as long as I have. It will be a lot better now that I am in an outfit too. I won't be kicked around like I have ever since I got into the Army."
