Abstract Mrs. Alvera (b. 1925) explains why her parents left Mexico to come to the United States, and talks about the family returning to Mexico for a brief period in the early 1940s. She reminisces about her childhood, religious education, dropping out of high school, her mother's work as a healer, and working for Purity Biscuit Company.
