Subject Conchae nasales; Trabecular bone
Description Stain: Azan. The fetal conchae develop like a branched gland (1) within the blue-stained trabecular bone (2) of the future skull. The fetal skin (3) is present at the top and bottom. Groups of cheek musculature (4) in middle left and right side. A broad sleeve of chin muscles below (5). The developing external ear channels (6) are located within the blue trabecular bone (at the level of conchae). Centrally the nasal septum (7) flanked by the symmetrical nasal chambers (8) in which protrude the turbinate cartilages (*, conchae). At both sides of the nasal septum two cross-sections of paranasal sinuses are present (9). The oral cavity is bordered by the upper fetal maxillar bone (10) in which two upper molars (11, tooth sockets) are present. Two tooth sockets plus the two molars of the mandibular bone are visible below (12). In the middle a cross-section of the tongue (13, with glands at the bottom).
