Contents of letter mention an expedition of American scholars to Saint Catherine's Monastery to study religious iconography. Document 2: Contains rough drafts of two letters. The first is addressed to Abuna al-Wakil about the American expedition to Saint Catherine's Monastery at Mount Sinai. The second letter on the sheet of paper is addressed to Porphyrios III, Archbishop of Mount Sinai discussing the current American expedition to Mount Sinai and monetary costs of supplies and provisions |

Document 1: Letter dated end of March 1958 from Dr. Aziz Atiya to ascetic Father Pacome of Mount Sinai. Written in French. Contents of letter include gratitude for Father Pacome's friendship and mention of an expedition of American scholars to Saint Catherine's Monastery to study religious iconography. Dr. Atiya particulary mentions a member of the expedition, Kurt Weitzmann, and his extensive knowledge of iconographic art that will be a benefit to the monastery. Document 2: Contains the text of two letters that appear to be rough drafts. The first is addressed to Abuna al-Wakil about the American expedition to Saint Catherine's Monastery at Mount Sinai. Dr. Atiya adds that although he is unable to accompany the current expedition, he hope to return and visit the monastery again in the future. The second letter on the sheet of paper is addressed to Porphyrios III, Archbishop of Mount Sinai. It dicusses the current American expedition to Mount Sinai and monetary costs of supplies and provisions. Dr. Atiya also expresses his thanks, his inability to accompany the expedition, and his hope to return and visit Mount Sinai in the future |
