Bear Professor Atiya; My friend and colleague, Professor von Grunebaum, has suggested that I write to you as I undertake to publish in the pages of the Journal of Hear Eastern Studies the work of the outstanding Orientalists of the world* I should like, therefore, to invite you to contribute to the Journal. I know of your research in the Crusades, and I suspect that you may already have completed but unpublished work in this field. Such an article would be welcome in the office of the Journal. If, however, you would prefer to prepare a special study, you would wish to know that we prefer articles of from fifteen to thirty typewritten pages in length, written in English. We are always willing to consider longer works, especially if the authors are willing to have them divided for publication in several issues, and we are willing also, if necessary, to publish in French or German. Since the Journal of Near Eastern Studies is a quarterly periodical, I am at present in a position to promise comparatively early publication of any article submitted in the near future.
