Description A self-timed cell set and library for the design of integrated circuits is presented. The cell set and library are two different cellular methods of designing integrated circuits. These have been incorporated to form a hybrid system which exploits the advantages provided by each. The cell set and library create a modular system for integrated circuits design. In this system the cell set is used to design control structures such as state machines. The library consist of cells which perform other functions. eg. adders, RAMs, etc. The two types of cells form the entire system. The goal of this design system is to decrease the layout time and increase the modularity of the system. The self-timed nature of this cell set and library leads to a modular system. The building blocks necessary for a self-timed system are designed for the library. The layout time is decreased by using symbolic representations of the cells to layout the chip rather than requiring design at the mask level.
