Although Charles W. Lockerbie (1879-1963) was born in Minnesota, he moved to Utah with his mother and sister in 1890 to live with his grandfather, Dr. H. E. Garrett, near the Jordan River at 1700 South. It was during his youth there that he acquired a lifelong interest in birds, and during the years of his maturity he was known as the "Dean of Utah field ornithologists."

Noteworthy items among his papers include his autobiographical reminiscences, "Our Changing World," which contains a valuable description of Salt Lake City and the West Side area in the 1890s. There is also a brief holograph autobiography of his grandfather, who was one of the founders of Central Christian Church One file folder contains programs for theater productions at Kingsbury Hall and South High School.
