Indian Artifacts--Ground Stones-Pipes |
Description |
Pipe (unfinished)--Material stone length is 2.75 inches. Found on the the rim of the Ashley Canyon, one mile north of its mouth by Gerald Thorne. Length is 8 cm (3 1/8 in.) Width is 3.2 cm (1 1/2 in.). A tapered hole showing grinding groves is drilled into the flattened large end. Diameter of hole is 1.4 cm (1/2 in.) The Depth is 2.1 cm (3/4 in). This shows abraision marks and polished areas where the object was shaped but considerable of the oricional surface of the stone still shows. The top is nicely flattened and smoother with the hole being drilled at the center. Mr. Thorne called these objects unfinished pipes--perhaps because nothing else seemed appropriate. |
