Stewart and Mary Ashton

Stewart and Mary Ashton in their later years. Stewart was prominent business man of Vernal was born in Roosevelt to Eva Stewart and Rae Ashton. He and his brother, Ralph, owned and managed the Ashton's Department Store located near the center of Vernal. He married Mary Kyler in 1956 in Longview, Texas. He was a WW II Veteran and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He served on many boards and committees. They moved back to Longview, Texas in 1988 after retiring from Ashton's. He passed away on March 30, 1992 in Longview, Texas.
