Butterfly Dancers

Butterfly dancers-the Butterfly is a pleasure dance with an undercurrent of supplication for the welfare of the Hopi people. Dancing in couples, as many as a hundred men and women may participate. Music is furnished by a chorus of men. Each male dancer is required to provide his partner's headboard. Competition is brisk and the resulting multiplicity of colors and designs contributes a kaleidoscopic beauty to the dance.
