Show Consolidated Ute Indian Agency, Ignacio, Colo. April 4, 1923. Mr. J. Ray Ward, United States Marshall, Salt Lake City, Utah Dear friend Ward: Your letter of May 1st, relative to your recent trip to Blanding and to the burial of Posey received. I was sorry not to see you or hear from yourself the details of this trip as i t would have saved me much trouble and extra work. You will realize that i t was aosolutely necessary for me to be satisfied that Posey was dead before I could remove his name from the rolls of Ute Mountain. The local Justice of the Peace as well as all the citizens of Blanding, were not satisfied with the reported death and burial of Posey. The Justice, therefore, appointed a jury to hold an autopsy on the case. This was done and I arrived at the grave in company vvith Mr. Simington, allotting agent, Bishop Redd and his brother before Posey was reburied. I am now in a position to report officially the death of Posey. A copy of this letter to the Commissioner today will act as such report. Yours very truly, E.E.
