The s t i p u l a t i o n s were f a i t h f u l l y observed and the Indiana received in return an annuity of foods of the value of 1 $ 31,000 for a terra of twenty years. The governor of Utah, in his message to the l e g i s l a t u r e , December 12, 1864, said: " These were the first treaties ever made. by the United States with the bands of Shoshone*, and it is somewhat remarkable that they have adhered to their stipulations with a filelity equal to that of 3 coat civilized nation."
