D: Yes, all the white people and Indians were hiding from the Navajos. That's what they used to say. Even in Orderville, too. You know what I told you. They left their wagons, I guess, right on that trail, the head of that trail. That's where that Navajo went and dug into that can and put it in his mouth. F: Oh yes, the grease? D: Yes, the wagon grease. It used to have the wagon grease about this tall can. He thought that was something good to eat. [Laughter] That's what they used to say. -1 F: So did [ K \ a o r v t + ever live here at Moccasin? D: Yes, he used to live around here and live around the" "Kanab"," too. I guess he was from here and over they go-they used to go all over this country, at House^ock Valley and Lee's Ferry and that place in the wintertime down in the Colorado River. F: Oh, in the canyon. That's where they spent the winter. D: Yes, that's where they used to spend the winter, like birds. F: Hiding in cliffs? [laughter] What about that Lee's Ferry? D: Huh? F: What about that Lee's Ferry? Was that a plo.ce where you could get across the river? D: Yes, they used to-just above that bridge. I haven't been over there. Even I .go across that bridge.
