GT: Ah- Pine Tree Legal Assistance is a state wide OEO Legal Services Program in Maine, and within Pine Tree there is something Ah- I am the only full- time attorney right now service community. Ah- we may have an opening for a second attorney Ah- I have an opening this summer for a law student, if anyone is interested in working on ah- problems of the Eastern tribes ah- I'm- rather, I'm involved in ah- representing several businesses, a couple of housing authorities, a lot of what you call Ah- we plan also of putting together a course on Indian law that I'm giving on the reservations, and we're trying to design that Ah- there's very serious questions concerning recognition for the Eastern Tribes. Ah-- basically, what happens to the Eastern Tribes is that the Federal Government says that they're not recognized by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and so they don't get services, they don't get funds and perhaps even more importantly they don't get the benefit of and the states has just had a field- day ah- concerning all kinds of trouble- field day concerning |
