Ah- two years ago, there was a big question about if a non- lawyer can run DNA Legal Services Program, and there were some rules on the reservation that were against su- such a move, but we dared them and ah- and here I am today-- ( laughter) - and- Ben Henley is going to be one of the first Navajo lawyer to ah- I think he made change of services in June. So ah- the other thing in favor of education. They always talk about Indians_ controlling their own educational programs. One of the issues that's on the Navajo reservation is this, the Navajo Reservation extends into four states, and those four states are imposing their own provisions or what have you on to our present educational system. And one of the ah- this that we want to work on is to go to the tribal council, now that we have ah- a warm very ah- co- operative chairman, I think we'll be in a position whereby we'd like to bring educational system of our own, and ah- develop a department of education under the tribal council then that way we'll kick, you know, we'll kick all the ah- four states out, and ah- really and truthfully control our own educational system. That way, if the Navajos want to have ah- Navajo curriculum, ah- Navajo religion be taught, we'll be able to do it, and we won't have to fight with the |
