Ah- I guess DNA is one of the biggest programs. We have ah- positions for twenty- three lawyers. Presently, they're all filled. ( laughter) We also have ah- positions for thirty tribal court magistrates, and ah- they're presently all occupied, also. But one of the interesting things that I think DNA has been able to do is, we talk about Indian control- Indian self- determination. And I think ah- as far as DNA is concerned, we haven't been talking about it. We did it and we practice ah- some of the things that we often talk about. Yesterday I came to this meeting and, if it wasn't for DNA, I think we would have had only one Indian attending the meeting in the name of Indian Legal Services Project. But one of the things that really concerned me very deeply was the fact that many of our poverty lawyers, and I think it is a credit to them, when they go out and ah- think of all the beautiful lawsuits that they want to bring. Make the complaint and then file it in Federal District Court, and then look what it finds. I think it takes- it takes guts |
