Show # 1046 Side Two OEO Legal Aid page 35 X: " Ah- the American Law Center is part of the University of New Mexico school of law, and it was founded several years ago to try to co- ordinate the efforts of various Indian groups and organizations establish an Indian Law Library. Our main right now, is Legal Service training. We're working on main projects. One project involves screening of traffic reports judges. And the other project is a research project to develop a criminal court procedure manual for the tribal court judges and also an analysis of the protections of the ' 68 Indian Civil Rights Act, and I'd like to briefly explain how this came about. There's an organization called the National American Indian formed by a number of up- grade the court system, and get specialized training. So they formed an organization which eventually developed for proposals to the law- enforcement assistant administrations who get training and research. And then they settled contracts with the University of New Mexico Indian Law- center much of the reserach training. Ah-- the training program this started well, actually, the first training sessions were held in about January of this year, and there's throughout the country, there's ah-- I believe now six different areas, and they're held once a month for one day.
