My f a t h e r ' s mother's name wan Todich'iini Asdz___ w She lived around the Coalmine in the area or Tuba City during Fort Sumner. She did rut go to Fort Sumner. She must have been a young woman at the time of I'ort Sumner. She was s t i ll having children. She was living on the east side of Big Mountain on top of Black Mesa when she died. I remember Tai'yooni, " Mixer," of the Ashiihi Clan. He was born near C- anado ( Quad 3D, IW- j:). he was appointed as a 3even- dcllar- a- month judge. He was ray mother's brother. He used to v i s i t uc up in this area (" avajo . Mountain). I understand that he used to t a l k t o the " avajos about schools and education. I remember Kastiin Bagodi, " Mr. Kh'ee," of the Todich'iini Clan. Ke lived in the Tuba City area ( Quad 22, 8E£). I don't believe he vent to Fort Sumner', he Stayed on the north side of Grey Mountain ( Quad 33, _ W-£). He was appointed headman by the Governjaaa t . He was an uncle to ray father and he used to v i s i t my father in this area ( Navajo Mountain). I remember that he made a t r a i l to this water that we have up here. He was living In the Tuba City area when he died. I remember Kastiin N'daaz, " Heavy Man," of the Todich'iini ( Biibitoo'dnii) Claa. Ke lived in the Tuba City area, and he was an old man when I saw him. I do not know where he was born nor where he died. He was a Government- paid headman. He was my f a t h e r ' s uncle and he used t o v i s i t with my father. I remember Kliya'aani DiiX, " Husky KHya'& ani Clansman." I don't know whether he was a headman or not, but he used to come into t h i s area. He lived around the (&_ 0___ ne Caayon area ( Quad 2C, UW- J-). I believe he died in that same area. At the time these people whom I have mentioned lived, they had to hunt for wild seeds for food. Most of t h e i r food came from the areas in which they lived in the Navajo Mountain area. They used to find some other seeds in the f l a t places around the base of the mountain. They lived on the south side of Navajo Mountain in the canyons before Fort Sumner. At the time of Fort Sumner, they moved into the Navajo Mountain area. Before Fort Sumner, there was a man called Kastiin Daachaa*, " Mr. Mustache," - 3- |
