Show LEGEND: Alva Matheson. February 24, 1968. Page 2 One day as some people were swimming or playing in the water, a small group from a neighboring friendly tribe came by and decided to join the party in the water. They knew nothing of the salt in the water, so ran and dived from the bank into the brine. Two or three of them got the salt water into their noses and lungs which caused so much coughing and strangling that they could not get their breath and they died.' Thus the name of Pah- ha- wan, or evil water, water with bad spirits, bad medicine, etc. The white people with their harsh, lazy way of pronouncing words have changed this soft, beautiful word to Parowan." |
